PostHeaderIcon Google’s Putting in a FTTH Network, vote for Austin. #BigGigAustin

That’s right… this is really old news, but we need to push this one right over the edge for Austin.  If you’re not familiar with FTTH, it means, (Fiber to the Home).  It’s pretty much a gigabit internet connection, which for this country at least, is unheard of.

Basically Google is getting tired of Time Warner and AT&T stifling growth by trampling on the customers.  I’m sure a few months ago you remember when Time Warner said Austin was going to a metered bandwidth model, (which would really mess up my downloading habbits) and everyone got pissed off?  Well Google got pissed off too, which is why we’re seeing this.

You can check out Google’s page for more awesome information about this, as well as nominate your community.  You don’t have much time left before they pick a city, so you should go and do this as soon as possible.  BTW, no matter where you live, you should put “Austin” as the community to nominate.

There is also a group here in Austin, that’s trying to push Google to select Austin for it’s test market, and it’s called #BigGigAustin (twitter).
