PostHeaderIcon When shipping to tech after basic do you start right away?

I’m shipping out to Air Force BMT Sept. 1st then I go to Keesler for Tech (3C0X1). My question is will I start schooling right away or could I be there for a few weeks before school starts? Also any insight on 3COX1 career field or tech school would be helpful

Thanks
Yes 3C0X1 is Computer Systems Operations. Pretty much anything having to do with computers or networking. Has anyone been in this career field?

When I went from Lackland to Shepard in 1974 I had a three week wait for the next available slot to open in school. It depends on when a slot opens in the school you’re set for. Don’t worry, tough, TIs can find all kinds of details to keep you out of trouble.

I don’t know what a 3COX1 is. My AFSC was 43170C under the ancient system. Good luck, anyhow!

I started right away, but everything fell into place for me. I went to Keesler too.
Descriptions for this career field state that 3- and 5-skill level members are responsible for preparing communications-computer systems for operation, operating consoles, performing system product control, and authorized operator maintenance of peripheral equipment. In addition, 3- and 5-skill level members troubleshoot problems occurring on various communications-computer machines. In addition to the above, 7-skill level members are also responsible for planning and scheduling, supervising, evaluating and assisting, and controlling communications-computer systems activities. Entry into the career ladder is from Basic Military Training School (BMTS) through a 70 day formal training course conducted at Keesler AFB MS. Resident ABR training includes principle-centered training relating to: Communications-Computer Systems career ladder, security, internal coding systems, internal data flow, computer network principles, computer system components and configurations, and peripheral equipment and storage media.

From all of this I gather is it some kind of IT (hardware tech) type job.

It can be from a couple of days, to a couple of weeks.

It just depends on when people in your class graduate Basic.

You may be the last person and start right away, or you may have to wait.

You will do details until then,

IE: cleaning, vacuming the barracks, picking up trash, mowing, etc
